Frèdèrique began studying American Tribal Style belly dance 1997 with Jill Parker of Ultra Gypsy. After performing as a core member of Ultra Gypsy for almost 3 years, Frèdèrique steered her endeavors in a new direction and founded Romani - Urban Tribal Belly Dance in 2000. Romani was a professional belly dance troupe that pioneered and popularized the underground electronic Middle-Eastern / Indian flavored music used by most American Tribal, Tribal Fusion, and Tribe-aret belly dancers today.

In December of 2003, Romani disbanded and Frèdèrique formed a dance collaborative named Belly Groove while regularly performing and teaching workshops around the U.S.

Frèdèrique is known for her unique style (Tribal Remixed) and innovation as well as and her music editing and mixing skills. She has performed for Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, and the Mayor of San Francisco.

Frederique's New 'Tribal Remixed' Moves Workshop
Want to add to your tribal vocabulary? Learn new moves with the ATS concept and format of lead and follow developed with non-verbal cues. Frederique has created new Tribal Remixed moves that have been inspired by a variety of ancient and modern dances with fundamental roots in ATS belly dance.

Class will begin with isometric exercises that will help strengthen upper body posture.

Following will be warm up stretches that have been chosen for those highly flexible as well as those inflexible. Be prepared to focus on strong technique throughout the class. By the end we will all be dancing new tribal moves together, as a tribe. Prior knowledge and practice in ATS is recommended but not necessary.

BONUS Workshop with Jim Boz - Beyond Basics: Textures & Morphing
The essence of dance isn't just doing a move, it's varying your movement textues based on musical phrasing, both rhythmic and melodic. Join Jim as he discusses, presents and creates a new a valued space for your individual expressions!

Beginning with some basic textures, we will work through a series of exercises designed to find the expression of the music in your soul through your hips - bypassing your brain with the over-intellectualization that prevents you from *being* the music!

Frederique's Charm Arms Workshop
Learn Frederique's individual and unique style in arms, upper body gesticulation, and more importantly, secrets on how to find your own style. Arms are your opportunity to add your manner, personality, and expression through the dance. Often the focus is on the hips and abs in your training, in this workshop it will be all arms with torso, shoulders, and head subtleties for defined or refined expression.

And lets not forgot the final frontier in dance expertise... Hands, right down to your finger tips... Frederique has many secrets to share with you on placement with a relaxed feel and look. In this workshop we will work on obtaining elegance, grace, poise, and by polishing your individual style though strengthening, emotional expression, and drills specifically developed and designed by Frederique for this necessary task.
